Scientist, Discovery Biology
The ideal candidate will perform high-quality, lab-based research focused on developing and implementing enzyme- and cell-based screening assays, evaluating lead compounds in secondary bioassays and mechanism of action studies, and identifying and validating new targets. This individual will have a background in the life sciences, experience performing basic biological research and laboratory techniques, including mammalian cell culture, and a strong desire to learn and gain experience in a drug discovery setting.
Job Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement robust and reproducible biochemical and cell-based assays to support compound selection and optimization and new target validation
- Deliver high-quality data to support lead candidate selection, mechanism of action studies, patient selection strategies, and combination approaches
- Collect, analyze, and provide a written and/or verbal summary of the results of experiments to supervisor and scientific team
- Understand when assays are not performing properly, troubleshoot the problem, and provide possible solutions
- Maintain meticulous notes and up-to-date laboratory notebook records
- Expand your knowledge of cancer biology and drug discovery techniques by reading literature and attending scientific meetings
- Act in accordance with all Cyteir Therapeutics policies and be a positive contributor to company culture
Job Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in cancer biology, molecular biology, biotechnology, pharmacology, or equivalent field of study. Consideration will be given to M.S. candidates with significant industry experience and a track record of major contributions to drug programs
- Hands-on laboratory experience in molecular biology, cancer cell biology, or biochemistry including mammalian cell culture experience
- Significant laboratory experience in one or more of the following: flow cytometry, apoptosis and cell death assays, DNA damage response and repair assays, biochemical or biophysical assay development, high-content imaging, medium-high throughput assay development and analysis
- Demonstrated ability to work well and contribute to a team environment
- Proficiency in basic data analysis and visualization software
- Positive attitude, curious, creative, and eager to learn
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to multi-task
- Well organized and able to maintain detailed records of experimental work
- Ability to communicate clearly and decisively in an open, timely manner
- The courage to say, “I don’t know” and to ask for help
