The ideal candidate will provide leadership and strategic direction in building the computational chemistry function at Cyteir and be an integral member on our R&D programs. This individual will possess a strong track record of contributions to small molecule drug discovery programs, guide project teams during lead optimization, work with structural biology scientists to build solutions to complex problems and collaborate cross-functionally with scientists throughout the organization.

Job Responsibilities

  • Build the computational chemistry and cheminformatics function at Cyteir Therapeutics; define appropriate modeling software needs to support all medicinal chemistry and chemo-informatics efforts
  • Independently design and execute computational experiments to enable the advancement of Cyteir’s programs
  • Apply computational techniques to advance projects at all phases of drug discovery, from target validation and hit generation to lead optimization and candidate selection
  • Collaborate with discovery medicinal chemists to maximize computational impact on structure-, ligand-, and property-based design of selective molecules targeting DDR pathways
  • Contribute, assist, and advise in the design, evaluation, and prioritization of new analogues for medicinal chemistry projects
  • Build and drive computational strategies to guide virtual screening and the design of small molecules with improved potency, selectivity, and ADME properties
  • Develop testable hypotheses and deliver computational tools for predicting biological activity, selectivity, ADME, and pharmacokinetic properties

Job Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in Chemistry, Computational chemistry, Molecular Modeling or a related discipline, with 6-8 years of experience in industry developing and applying computational chemistry and chemo-informatics to support drug discovery
  • Expert knowledge in structure-based and ligand-based small molecule drug design
  • Experience in acting as a program or chemistry team leader on discovery programs
  • Expertise in medicinal chemistry principles to successfully contribute to drug discovery projects
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems at the interface of chemistry and biology, and generate novel direction resulting in new chemical matter, as evidenced by publications and patents
  • Experience in managing internal and / or external scientists, including Ph.D. scientists
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with all stakeholders
  • High degree of scientific curiosity; courage to say “I don’t know” and seek answers
  • Ability to move between roles, as a leader, independent contributor, and team member
  • Highly collaborative, self-motivated
  • A sense of adventure and excitement to help build a successful biotech company and work in a highly dynamic research environment
