Head of Human Resources

This position is responsible for developing and delivering key processes and systems ensuring implementation of the company’s long-term strategic growth plan, as well as execution of day to day HR operations. This includes benefits administration, compensation policies and procedures, performance management, talent acquisition, onboarding/offboarding, HR systems and reporting, and HR compliances and policies. They will be a key partner to the CEO and management team and will participate in strategic and operational discussions with the Executive Leadership Team. This is a single incumbent position with responsibilities ranging from hands on, tactical tasks to providing strategic direction for HR and beyond.

Primary Responsibilities

Talent Acquisition

  • Provide full cycle talent acquisition expertise including job description development, sourcing, screening, interviewing, offer recommendations and candidate care
  • Establish workforce planning and hiring strategies. Identify critical skills and develop plans to ensure success in filling the skill gaps in the organization
  • Initiate the selection and management of executive search firms, negotiate contract terms (fees, guarantees, etc.)
  • Manage the candidate experience from applicant to employee including onboarding and first day orientation

Benefits Administration

  • Manage the day to day administration and compliance with the company’s benefit programs including health/welfare, retirement and HSA/DCA contributions
  • Manage annual open enrollment process and educate employees on benefits plan selection and processes
  • Serve as primary contact for all benefit vendors, working with them to ensure all information is properly addressed and communicated
  • Handle relevant compliance requirements. Serve as point of contact for all employee questions relating to benefits
  • Manage FMLA/LOA/Disability and Life insurance management
  • On an annual basis, review the benefits plans for competitive costs, fit for purpose and changes in healthcare policies

Compensation and Performance Management

  • Participate in annual market survey data input to support and guide compensation initiative
  • Drive the annual process for updating compensation structures and pay guidelines. Develop communication and implementation plans
  • Initiate the performance management cycle; create annual calendar of events, monitor progress
  • Responsible for leading reward and recognition initiatives
  • Partner with the BOD Compensation Committee to review and recommend executive compensation; prepare information, partner with Head of Committee and Compensation Consultant, attend/facilitate meetings

Employee Relations

  • Effectively support employee relations dynamics, conflict resolution and understanding of compliance and employment law
  • Coach leaders to enhance their impact on employees to address organizational needs (building morale, strengthening retention, and providing guidance on succession planning and career ladders)
  • Integrate with the business, building trust and credibility as a valuable sounding board on organizational and talent issues

System Integration and Legal Compliance

  • Ensure the company is compliant with all state and federal labor laws (EEO/Affirmative Action Plans, FMLS, FLSA, COBRA, ERISA, etc.)
  • Maintain legally compliant and accurate employee files and other employee data
  • Assist in implementing and administering HR policies and procedures in accordance with the organizations overall goals. Recommends new approaches to affect continual improvements in the value of HR services and programs
  • Manages day to day system development, administration and management. Acts as project manager for HR related initiatives and responsible for integrity of all employee data.

  • Act as a key driver and ambassador of the company’s culture
  • Help lead an ongoing organizational transformation from an early-stage company to a product-focused, commercial organization maintaining key talent, engagement and culture standards
  • Monitor and interpret trends and metrics regarding employee satisfaction, attrition and turnover


  • Minimum of 8+ years progressive HR experience in a generalist role with knowledge across core competencies of HR
  • Proven success being strategic and hands-on with the ability to be agile, working autonomously and results driven
  • Experience in biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry strongly preferred
  • Strong communication, influence and relationship building skills
