The ideal candidate will provide experienced leadership and strategic direction to a team of cancer biologists focused on expanding our DNA Damage Response (DDR) platform of research tools and capabilities as well as identifying and validating new DDR targets to strengthen our drug discovery project pipeline. This individual will have a deep understanding of DDR biology and the therapeutic landscape, and hands-on experience developing and implementing assays to measure DNA damage and DNA repair proficiency. Candidates with experience executing and interpreting CRISPR-based synthetic lethal screens and successfully managing external scientific collaborations will be prioritized.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Expand the in-house DDR toolkit and capabilities platform and develop the overall strategy for its deployment to advance our drug discovery pipeline
  • Lead a team of scientists in the design, development, and implementation of robust enzyme- and cell-based assays to characterize the effects of lead compounds on DDR pathways
  • Guide new DDR target identification and validation activities, including CRISPR-based synthetic lethal screens, both internally and through external service providers
  • Oversee the generation and analysis of high-quality experimental data to identify and confirm the mechanism of action of lead compounds
  • Collect, analyze, and summarize data for presentations, reports, publications, and patents
  • Interact cross-functionally and provide scientific leadership on preclinical project teams
  • Maintain an up-to-date understanding of new technologies and relevant scientific advances in cancer and DDR biology from literature, scientific meetings, and professional network
  • Apply knowledge and experience to influence cross-functional teams in solving problems and evaluating new technologies

Job Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. and 8+ combined years of postdoctoral research experience and/or industry experience in DDR biology and small molecule drug discovery
  • Deep understanding of DDR biology, DNA damage repair pathways, genome instability and replication stress
  • Knowledge of the current therapeutic landscape and target opportunities in the DDR space
  • Hands-on experience with enzyme- and cell-based assays typically used to study DDR biology, DNA repair, and replication stress
  • Well organized and able to maintain detailed records of experimental work
  • Ability to communicate clearly and decisively in an open, timely manner
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively train, manage, and mentor junior scientists
  • Experience performing and interpreting CRISPS-based synthetic lethal screens is highly desirable
