Associate Director, Biochemistry

The ideal candidate will provide experienced leadership in overseeing the development and implementation of biochemical and biophysical assays for hit screening and lead optimization and will collaborate cross-functionally to support drug discovery efforts across the portfolio. This individual will be an expert in enzymology and have a broad understanding of current assay technologies, instrumentation, and screening formats required to identify and characterize small molecule inhibitors of enzymes and protein-protein interactions. Candidates experienced in DNA damage response biology and with experience successfully managing external service providers will be prioritized.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of scientists in the design, development, validation, and implementation of a broad range of biochemical assays for small molecule screens against novel targets in DNA damage response pathways
  • Establish and manage collaborations with external CROs performing assay development and miniaturization, assay transfer, library screening, and hit validation across projects
  • Develop expert knowledge of biochemical mechanisms of program targets and DDR biology and serve on cross-functional project teams as the biochemistry expert
  • Lead productive discussions on key scientific and strategic issues with internal and external colleagues at all levels of the organization
  • Stay current with new technologies and relevant scientific advances in biochemical techniques and assay formats from literature, scientific meetings, and professional network
  • Review and ensure the quality of scientific data to meet regulatory expectations and author technical and regulatory documents to support advancement of therapeutics to clinical testing
  • Act in accordance with all Cyteir Therapeutics policies and be a positive contributor to company culture

Job Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. and 8+ combined years of postdoctoral research experience and/or industry experience developing and implementing biochemical and biophysical assays to support drug discovery
  • Expertise in the areas of enzymology, enzyme kinetics and current assay formats for several enzyme classes and protein-protein-interaction targets
  • Hands-on experience with high throughput screening and hit validation techniques
  • General knowledge of early drug discovery process and demonstrated leadership on cross-functional teams
  • Demonstrated success using in-house and external resources to advance programs from assay development to lead optimization
  • Ability to write detailed in vivo protocols and direct the work of in vivo scientists
  • Well organized and able to maintain detailed records of experimental work
  • Ability to communicate clearly and decisively in an open, timely manner
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively train, manage, and mentor junior scientists
