Barry Mills is the emeritus president of Bowdoin College, a liberal arts college located in Brunswick, Maine. He was inaugurated as Bowdoin’s fourteenth president in October 2001 and served 14 years as president retiring on June 30, 2015. Mills, who holds a doctorate in biology and a law degree served as deputy presiding partner of Debevoise & Plimpton in New York City. He joined the firm in 1979 and became a partner in 1986. His work concentrated on corporate law, real estate, and corporate finance. Mills graduated from Bowdoin College cum laude in 1972, earned a doctorate in biology from Syracuse University in 1976 and a law degree from Columbia University School of Law in 1979, where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar. Mills has served on a number of corporate and nonprofit boards and is currently a consultant to nonprofit and for profit organizations.
