Translational Scientist

Translational Research

Cyteir Therapeutics seeks a highly skilled and self-motivated Ph.D. scientist to join the Translational Research function and help advance the development of our small molecule oncology portfolio. This scientist will report to the Director of Translational Research and will be a key contributor to the execution of the translational strategy to identify cancer indications, PD and patient selection biomarkers, and combination and differentiation strategies to help identify the right patients to treat in the clinic. The ideal candidate will have expertise in cancer biology, synthetic lethality and/or DNA damage repair, with a track record of identifying biomarkers and translating them into the clinic.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Key contributor to the translational research team, with broad responsibility helping us make novel discoveries to advance our pipeline assets
  • Design and execution of key experiments enabling the identification of novel predictive and pharmacodynamic biomarkers, and understanding the mechanism of action of our small molecule inhibitors
  • Identification and validation of cancer indications and contexts dependent on our drug targets to assist the clinical development of our programs
  • Work closely with our multi-disciplinary team of scientists, and interact with external CRO partners to generate novel hypotheses and advance our scientific priorities
  • Assess the feasibility of translating newly identified biomarkers into assays suitable for use in a clinical trial setting
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of advancements in the field, and new laboratory techniques and technologies
  • Ability to directly impact the decision-making of our growing dynamic team through communication of novel discoveries both internally at team meetings, and externally at conferences and with our partners

Experience & Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in molecular or cellular biological sciences, cancer biology, biochemistry, or a field related to biomedical sciences
  • 3+ years industry work experience in discovery or translational biology with oncology focus
  • Broad knowledge of cancer biology required, with expertise in synthetic lethality or the DNA damage repair field highly preferred
  • Extensive experience in standard laboratory techniques, including hands-on experience with CRISPR, RNAi, and small molecule inhibitor treatment of cancer cell lines
  • Experience with NGS technologies is preferred, and familiarity with pathway analysis and bioinformatic data analysis is a plus
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated team player, with the ability to work independently
  • Strong communication skills, and a track record of advancing projects on tight timelines
